North Zulch ISD

North Zulch ISD is committed to developing character, fostering a positive learning experience, and promoting individual student success in society through a shared responsibility between students, teachers, parents, and the community. Unfortunately, their building’s facilities were facing high energy costs with a limited budget. The mechanical equipment was nearing the end of its’ life cycle and North Zulch ISD was in a need of a solution for increasing costs related to building infrastructure. The well-being and comfort of students and staff is of the utmost importance.

North Zulch ISD wanted to improve campus lighting. Two campuses needed new outdoor lighting for safety and security while the indoor lighting was inconsistent from room to room. The building automation system was inaccessible to staff, causing an uncomfortable and inconsistent learning environment. Studies reveal that a healthy and comfortable learning environment greatly impacts students’ academic performance, attendance, and test scores.

The Way Companies surveyed the equipment and worked together with the district to formulate a solution and recapture funding. North Zulch chose The Way Companies to replace all their campus’ outdated T-12 lightbulbs with LED lighting. They also supplanted their building automation controls with a BacNet system, allowing for web-based access and control. The new building automation controls is providing greater energy efficiency and environmental comfort. Additionally, the building automation system is extending the life of their HVAC equipment.

The objective was to reduce the school district’s utility bills up to 30% annually with these upgrades. The savings would then generate enough capital to entirely fund the project in time. In less than two years, The Way Companies has saved North Zulch ISD more than $100,000 in utility bills.
